Hi, everyone! My name is Xiying Zhang, and originally I am from Jinan, China. I am here in Santa Fe to complete an urban planning project with my team. The project specifically fulfills the undergraduate degree requirement of Interactive Qualifying Project (IQP) at our school. Our project title is “Revitalization of Saint Michael’s Drive in Santa Fe, New Mexico”, and I am very glad that Santa Fe Complex enlists our help in the efforts to assist the local government to advancing the development of Santa Fe.

As a sophomore at Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI), I am pursuing my Bachelor of Science Degree of Chemical Engineering with a minor in Chemistry. I am a member of professional organization American Institute of Chemical Engineers (AICHE), WPI Chapter. In my spare time, I volunteer at Gateway Park, WPI’s new life science and bioengineering center. I want to go graduate school after college researching in Chemical and Biological Engineering.

At school, I am working for Annual Giving as a Tech Caller in the Phone Room to build connections with the school’s alumni, parents and friends. Through this working experience, I have been aware of how important it is to keep programs inexpensive for students while keeping the university engineering education at the cutting-edge. I am thus very excited about this project opportunity, which offers an accessible project choice for WPI undergraduates, while making WPI better known in the southwest area.

I am also very involved on campus in multiple student clubs and organizations. I am on Class Board of 2012, which is responsible for carrying on traditions and organizing events for our peers. I am also an active member in Special Events Committee and Annual Events Committee of Social Committee (SocComm) and Student Promoting Animal Welfare (SPAW). For off campus activities, I serve as a Big Sister in Big Brothers Big Sisters program at Worcester area.
